Video Marketing Tips Guaranteed To Help Your Business Succeed
As we know, video marketing is no easy task, and creating video ads can be extremely challenging. Here I’m going to show you some tips and tricks on how you can improve your ads and some key things to consider.
So, first we’re going to break down the essentials that YOU MUST CONSIDER before you make your ad. We’ll save those 6 keys for success til later in the video, lets go over the groundwork. Here are the 3 things to consider before you start.
Number 1, Who is your audience?
Try to figure out who your perfect, ideal customer is first. Think about things such as age, gender, income and even their interests. This will help ensure that you’re targeting your ads to the right people.
Number 2, What is the problem that you’re solving?
Whether you’re selling a product or a service, you must be extremely clear about this! For example, let’s say you’re selling razors. The problem you’re solving isn't a hairy chin, what you’re actually solving is bad skin caused by razor burn and expensive shaving products.
The next big thing to give some thought to is Where is the best place to find your audience
This will have some impact on the aspect ratio in which your video should be filmed in, as well as the length of the video.
Social media marketing with ads
These days, the most affordable place to reach your target audience is social media, particularly Facebook and Instagram. These 2 platforms have the most sophisticated target systems for paid ads. If you go this route, your safest bet is to use a square video for optimal feed placement on both platforms. YouTube is also a great place for ads! If you make those, then you need a good old fashion 16:9 aspect ratio, just like this video right now. And if you use LinkedIn, the same also applies
In regards to video length, for Facebook you’ll want your paid ads to be short, try and keep it under 30 seconds. The same can be said for YouTube, maybe even shorter, aim for 20 seconds. For LinkedIn also aim for about 30 seconds or so, you never want these ads to be too long because absolutely not many people will watch the entire thing.
Now that we’ve discussed everything you should consider before you start making video ads, it’s time to start talking about the fun stuff, the 6 Keys for successful video ads!
The first one is probably the most important. Something that has been proven to work and has been trusted by marketers for decades, and it’s as simple as this. Empathize with your customers' problems and then show them how you can solve it, and in the process, make their life better. Let’s take a look back at the razor example, the problem we’re solving is bad skin caused by razor burn. Start your ad by asking the viewer if they’re sick of looking bad because of razor burn, THEN explain how your product will help them look and feel better by using YOUR razor. You’ve just explained how your product improves their life and who doesn’t want a better life?
Another approach is to skip the empathy step and just take the viewer straight to the emotional place that they want to be. This could literally be as simple as showing a happy person and linking them to what you’re selling.
Something else that all good ads have, is that they focus on benefits and not features, no one really cares about all the amazing innovations in the thing you’re selling. What people want to know is how it will benefit their lives and solve a specific problem they're having. For example, your razors aren’t 100 times sharper just for the heck of it, they’re 100 times sharper to give you a 100 times smoother shave, all without any nicks or scratches.
Now, another important thing to keep in mind is that great ads speak to their target audience. Remember how we emphasized finding your perfect audience earlier? Well this is where that comes into play. Make sure your ad speaks to your niche. Now, you’re not rolling out some massive global campaign, so you don’t have to inspire the world with your creativity, but what you DO NEED to do is directly address the problem and the emotion they’re seeking. You can do this best by keeping your message direct, clear and really factual.
Now for the 5th key point, the call to action at the end of your video. Be VERY clear with your viewer about the action that you want them to take. Don’t waste the engagement your video has created. With the razors, the call to action would be something like “shop now” or “buy now”, if it’s an online course it might be “sign up today”. Whatever it may be, put it at the end.
And finally, number 6, my last tip for making great video ads. Make it feel native. As we talked about earlier, be sure you’re using the proper aspect ratio for your ad placement, and use content that feels right for the platform. Formal ads are less likely to perform well on Facebook than they are on LinkedIn, and a square video would feel weird on YouTube but it’s perfect for Facebook. Be sure that your ad feels right for the platform you’re using it on.
